After nearly 16 hours on the road, we have arrived in Albuquerque. The trip down was fairly uneventful, though we did drive through Greensburg, KS (a town that was flattened by an F5 tornado last year) and a west Texas dust storm which produced near zero visibility at times.
This morning (Friday morning) we woke up to 10-15 balloons off in the distance. I would have taken a picture or two, but all you would have seen was a dot. We spent the day registering and kinda scoping out the town. I have noticed other than the irrigated balloon field, there is VERY little grass down here, lots of yards with rocks and dirt as landscape.
Looks good for a flight tomorrow morning if we can get off in the first wave. Winds look to come up by mid morning with unsettled weather through the remainder of the weekend. Am predicting the gas balloons will be delayed.
Here I am standing in front of the Greensburg, KS water tower. The town is still mainly a trailer court over a year later. It is still a really a depressed area. :-( (photo credits: Rich Jaworski)
